MANCHESTER UNITED still have power to lure the world's greatest talent to Old Trafford.
CONFIDENT: Mata says the lure of Manchester United is still strong and will ensure big names follow him to Old Trafford
Under the Scot United find themselves out of title contention and facing a battle to qualify for next season's Champions League.
They also crashed out of both domestic cup competitions to Premier League also-rans Swansea and Sunderland.
Moyes has been handed a £100m war-chest to help get United back on their feet.
They currently trail fourth-placed Liverpool by 11 points, prompting fears the club will find it hard to lure star talent to Old Trafford without European competition to offer.
But their new Spanish star is confident the club will be just fine in the summer transfer market.
Mata said: “I don’t know what will happen in the summer but the
manager said the other day at a press conference that he’s going to be
signing players.
“I think this club is at a stage of change, a bit of change in the project, but as I’ll tell you, at this club the best players in the world will always arrive.”
“The objective is to get to the Champions League spots. It’s difficult because Liverpool are doing well, so are Arsenal, as well as Tottenham and Everton, who are all clubs also fighting for them, but I think we have a team who can do it.
“This is Manchester United. When this club wins two, three or four matches in a row, it has a very important mental strength, a winner’s mentality.
“We are coming and I think we can do it, but we have to win a lot of games first. This is a club that should always be fighting for the Premier League.”
REPLICATING THE REDS: Hamann reckons
United have a better chance of winning the Champions League than coming
fourth - something rivals Liverpool did in 2005
Ex-Liverpool ace Dietmar Hamann reckons United have a better
chance of winning the Champions League than beating his former club to
fourth spot.
Hamann played a crucial role in the Reds inprobable run to Champions League glory in 2005 when they defeated AC Milan on penalties.
United face Olympiakos in the first leg of their Champions League tie next week, and the German says boss Moyes should give the competition his full focus.
“Man United look like the team with the least chance at the moment, but they have the easiest draw," he said.
“They should have a pretty easy path to go to the last eight and you never know.
“I think they’ve got a better chance of winning the Champions League now than finishing fourth so they may have to throw all their eggs in one basket and go for it.”
That's the verdict of £37m midfield man Juan Mata, who joined the Premier League champions in January.
His
arrival was seen by many as a sign that United are prepared to buy
their way back to the top of the tree after a poor start to life under
David Moyes.
