PDP sweeps presidential polls in Rivers

Image result for pdpPORT HARCOURT—The  Independent National Electoral Comission,  INEC, has declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Rivers State.


Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Prof. John Etu-Efeotor,  who announced the result at INEC office in Port Harcourt, said the  PDP won in  the 23 local government areas of the state.

According to him, the PDP polled 1,487,075 votes, adding that the figure represents 94.99 percent of the total votes cast.

According to him, the All Progressives Congress, APC, polled a total of 60,238 representing 4.2 percent.

The total number of registered voters in the state is 2,324,300, while only 1,643,409 were accredited for the general elections, he said.

He said that the votes cast for the 14 parties that participated in the exercise were 1, 555,462, out of which 19,309 were voided.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Gesilia Khan, in a statement, yesterday, said  that the PDP won in all the senatorial and federal constituency elections.
