A VILE thief stole a man’s mobile phone as he lay dying of hypothermia.
Scott Stephenson, 19, grabbed the handset after the “vulnerable” victim tripped and fell.
And yesterday Stephenson and pal Dale Walker showed their contempt for the legal system by making offensive gestures outside court.
Stephenson and Walker, 25, knew the victim but left him after he fell over.
The pair came back 90 minutes later and Stephenson stole an iPhone from the unconscious man.
They then left him on a freezing December night in South Shields, Tyne and Wear.
Stephenson admitted theft at South Tyneside Magistrates Court while Walker admitted handling stolen goods.
The pair will be sentenced in April at Newcastle Crown Court.
