Luis Carrillo, 68, said the operation – designed to cure erectile dysfunction – left him too "deformed to have sex".

The Vietnam War vet has accused urologist Boback Berookhim of fitting him with an implant which was "too large".

Carrillo said he knew there was a problem when two months after the op he tried to have sex with his then-fiancee but couldn't due to excruciating pain.

He is representing himself in claiming the $5m (£3.5m) in damages from the James J. Peters VA Medical Centre in New York.

Surgeons who have assessed his condition said he penis would "straighten out" over time.
Despite his predicament Luis has since married his partner of 10 years.
