A SIGNED copy of Adolf Hitler's "Mein Kampf" has sold for £40,000 at an auction in Los Angeles.
The two-volume Nazi manifesto, considered one of the most racist
and shocking books of the modern era, almost tripled its estimated price
of £12,000.
In the book, an inscription suggests the book was given to Nazi SS guard Josef Bauer and autographed by Hitler during World War Two.
Eleven people bid on the online auction that was sold by auction house Nate D Sanders earlier today.
"Mein Kampf", which translates to "My Struggle", was written by Hitler while he was in prison.
In the book, he set out his vision for a "pure" Germany and the basis behind his Nazi regime.
Mr Sanders, who is Jewish, said despite its content, such items of historical significance should be freely available to buy.
He said: "I think it's very heinous, but it is an auction item, it is a memento, it's a piece of memorabilia and a piece of history.
"You have the whole gamut. There's white supremacist collectors of Hitler, and there's Jewish collectors of Hitler"
The same copy of Bauer's books sold in London in 2012 for £15,000.
