MOYES NEED A MIRACLE: Manchester United boss David Moyes needs something special from his players if they are going to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League

DAVID MOYES and his under-performing stars will have to look back almost exactly 30 years for inspiration if they are going to pull off a miracle in the second leg at Old Trafford.

March 21, 1984, is famously remembered as one of THE great Old Trafford nights.
Ron Atkinson’s side were trailing 2-0 from the first leg of their European Cup Winners’ Cup quarter against a Barcelona side that included Diego Maradona.

GREAT OLD TRAFFORD NIGHT: Bryan Robson scores his second goal against Barcelona in 1984 to help United to a 3-0 win

But the Spaniards were blown away in the second leg by a Bryan-Robson inspired United who stormed to a 3-0 win.
Robson, who scored twice in one of his great performances in a red shirt, ended the game being chaired off shoulder-high after thousands of fans invaded the field at the end.

United have only overturned a 2-0 first leg deficit on two other occasions. They are:
1956-57 European Cup v Athletic Bilbao - lost 5-3, won 3-0 - won 6-5 on aggregate.
1963-64 Cup Winners’ Cup v Spurs - lost 2-0, won 4-1 - won 4-3 on aggregate.
