The 14-year-old, who apologised following the incident, was attacked by a stranger at Dagenham East station.
Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in a fresh appeal for information about the assault at around 4.50pm on February 12.
The victim’s 47-year-old father, who did not want to be named, called the attack ‘sickening’.
‘To see my son lying sprawled out with the man over him and pools of blood, I just felt sick to the stomach. I was shocked to see how brutal it was,’ he told the Barking and Dagenham Post.
‘When the bus stopped, the man followed the schoolboy into Dagenham East station and punched him in the head.
‘The boy fell to the ground and was left unconscious, suffering bruising and a cut to his face.’
He added: ‘This was a shocking and callous assault that left the young victim needing hospital treatment.
‘I’m urging anyone who recognises the man pictured, or has any information that could assist officers with the investigation, to please contact us.’
