Arsenal hang on for FA Cup victory over Liverpool after Luis Suarez is denied clear penalty

Arsenal avenged last week’s massacre at Anfield with a battling FA Cup victory over Liverpool, but were thankful to referee Howard Webb for denying the visitors a stonewall penalty.

Having already awarded Luis Suarez a spot-kick minutes earlier, Webb waved away Reds’ appeals after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain clattered the Uruguayan in the box.

The impressive England midfielder had given the Gunners a first-half lead when he fired home on 17 minutes after Yaya Sanogo’s shot had been blocked by Steven Gerrard.
