Thomas Muller has told his Bayern Munich team-mates they must ‘play to the pain barrier’ if they are to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.


The Germany international is wary of the threat posed by the Premier League title-chasing Gunners in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16, first-leg tie.

However, the Bundesliga champions won 3-1 in Arsenal’s backyard last season as they went through on away goals at the same stage of the competition. The Gunners came back to win 2-0 in Munich.

Muller said: ‘It’ll be a tough game in London – we know we’ve got to go right to the pain barrier. We’re off to London feeling good and with a great run under our belts.’

While Arsene Wenger’s men have been up and down of late, winning just two of their last five matches in all competitions, Bayern head to London with nine straight wins, including a 4-0 drubbing of Freiburg on Saturday in the league.
