GERARD PIQUE fired a warning to Manchester City last night by claiming
Barcelona are out to prove they are the best in the world again.
POINT TO PROVE: Pique says Barca's European failures in recent seasons will spur them on against City
“We are a a team with a lot of players that won the World Cup and Champions League and La Liga.
“I think we can still be the best but we have to show to the world that we can do it.
“This is a great opportunity to go on the pitch and show we are top players and can win here.
“All we can do is go on the pitch and show the world that we can still be the best and try to play a great game against a great team like Manchester City, with great players.”
Manchester music lover Pique returns to the north-west for the first time since leaving United in 2008 and the Happy Mondays fan is hoping it will be a happy Tuesday for his side at the Etihad.
MANCHESTER MAD: Pique is a big fan after spending time in the red half of the City
Pique moved to Old Trafford in 2004 but returned to the Catalan
side where he played as a kid after winning the Premier League and
Champions League with United.
The Spain defender also picked up a taste for the local music as well as trophies.
He said: “I didn’t know any of them when I came but I like the Happy Mondays, as well as New Order and the Charlatans.
“I was born in 1987 so I was very young, but after three years I ended up liking the music here.
“It is a very special city for me. I was 17 when I came here. I would have liked to play more but it was a very special few years, I learned a lot.”
City may be the strongest team in Manchester at the moment, but there is still only one team in the area for Pique.
He added: “If I had to choose now between joining City and United, it would definitely be United. But I am really happy in Barcelona, it is the club of my life.”

Former United defender Pique, 27, admits
Barcelona have lost some of their fear factor after failing to win the
Champions League in the last two seasons.
But
the four-time European Cup winners believe beating City in the last 16
of the competition this year is the perfect way to show they are a force
once more.
Pique said: “I think that maybe
others don’t fear us as before because in the last two years we did not
win the Champions League, but I think they still respect us.
“I think we can still be the best but we have to show to the world that we can do it.
