TOM CLEVERLEY admits Manchester United may have to become invincible to make the Champions League this season.
That fixture does not come around until a week tomorrow as United are no longer in the FA Cup, so David Moyes’ men have jetted off for a training camp in Dubai.
Cleverley said: “We will get some warm weather training, we will be getting the lads together, and improve team spirit.
“We did it last year and it had a good effect on us so hopefully it will have the same effect this year.”
United’s £37m signing Juan Mata looks like he might have swapped Champions League football with Chelsea for another stint in the Europa League.
But he said: “I am happy here, I am very happy. I am enjoying my football, I am getting minutes on the pitch. I am in a very, very big club and I hope we finish the season well.
“David De Gea has helped me settle, the same with Chicharito, Antonio Valencia, and Rafael, who all speak Spanish – but everyone has helped me.
“They have all treated me phenomenally well.
“We had plenty of chances against Arsenal. Perhaps we should have taken them. We wanted to take all three points, but it didn’t happen for us.
“We had a lot of the ball but we could not score. This team is united, this team has a lot of strength mentally and I am convinced that by the end of the season we will have collected many points.
Wednesday night’s goalless draw at Arsenal
coupled with Liverpool’s late win at Fulham has left United 11 points
adrift of the top four.
No team has ever clawed
back a gap of more than six at this stage of the season since the
Premier League was first given a fourth Champions League spot by UEFA in
2001.
And Cleverley admits United may have to win every single game from now until the end of the season if they want to make history.
He said: “We need to win every game from now on and Liverpool getting a last-minute winner at Fulham is disappointing for us.
“Our
result wasn’t the worst in the world but we need to start winning games
fast. Both Arsenal and United wanted to win, so both teams ended up
disappointed.
“But it shows that we are
resilient. We are still fighting for every point - but unfortunately we
have lost more ground on the teams around us.
“We have to really get our heads down and start winning quickly, starting at Crystal Palace.”
