Matthew McConaughey: Drastic Dallas Buyers Club weight loss killed my sex life (You sure it wasn’t that moustache, Matt?)

McConaughey: Weight loss killed my sex lifeMatthew McConaughey shed 3st to play AIDS victim Ron Woodruff in Dallas Buyers Club

Matthew McConaughey reckons his skinny Dallas Buyers Club frame did little for his wife in the bedroom.

The 44-year-old actor lost a whopping 3st to play AIDS stricken bull rider Ron Woodroof in the Academy Award-nominated movie and can see why his appearance at the time may have been a turn-off.
Although his wife Camilla Alves was supportive, he said ‘perhaps it was not so appealing to be intimate when I was in that zone.’

The dad-of-three, who ate two egg whites, chicken, a small pudding and two Diet Cokes each day for four months in preparation for the role, explained: ‘The first time I saw myself on screen I thought I looked like a reptile.

‘It was an initial shock but I was able to shake that for the movie. My family saw my weight loss day by day, so they didn’t have that shock — but I look back and I think perhaps it wasn’t the easiest on them.’

But it wasn’t all bad, he says. ’It was tough, but what I lost physically down below, I gained up top,’ he told The Sun.

‘I felt incredibly clear-headed and purposeful, and on set there were no starvation dramas. I just wanted to get on with the job and tell this incredible story.’
