These shocking pictures show the ‘horrendous mess’ inside a flat where three vulnerable young boys were rescued by police.
Images of the ‘filthy’ Grimsby property were released after the parents of the children were jailed.
Matthew Cartwright, 39, and Marla Everett, 32, both admitted three offences of cruelty to the boys, all aged three or under, at Grimsby crown court.
Officers were called to the flat after a concerned member of the public called 999 when she saw one of the children swinging his legs through the metal bars of the third-floor flat’s balcony, the Grimsby Telegraph reports.
‘The whole place was in an horrendous mess,’ said prosecutor Jayne Beckett.
‘There was rubbish, faeces, used nappies and soiled wipes on the floor. There were disused takeaway packages, empty beer cans, bottles and cigarette ends all over.
‘PC Mills had to walk through the debris to get to the patio but he did so and rescued the boy, to applause from below.’
‘The smell in the room was almost unbearable.’
The boys have been taken into foster care.
