When the beer hits the pan, the result is truly mesmerising
Watch a humble splash of Newcastle Brown Ale transform into a
mesmerising gelatinous gloop as it hits the surface of a hot frying
pan.
The hypnotic result could be due to the Leidenfrost effect, which
creates a layer of vapour just above the surface of the pan and suspends
the liquid in midair like a hovercraft. Who needs extra virgin olive oil when you have Newcastle Brown Ale?
Usually the alcohol would burn off but when the pan is at just the
right temperature the beer’s viscosity alters before it evaporates. Now we know… The Leidenfrost effect could explain why the beer turns into a floating gelatinous gloop
