Nigeria’s male volleyball team on Thursday in Yaounde lost 1-3 to hosts Cameroonian counterparts in their first match at the FIVB Men’s World Championship qualifiers.
The match saw the hosts beat the Nigerian side 25-11, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20 to have their first win at the qualifiers.
The qualifiers is for the 2014 FIVB Men’s World Volleyball Championship scheduled to hold in Poland from Sept. 3 to Sept. 18.
The African qualifiers, which kicked off on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and will end on Tuesday, Feb. 18, has five countries fighting to secure one of Africa’s three tickets to the championship.
Hosts Cameroon, Gabon, Algeria, Nigeria and Rwanda are competing in the qualifiers’ Pool T.
Nigeria will play its second match on Friday against Gabon by 3 p.m.(NAN)
