The Bangkok Post quoted police as saying they suspected the attack was carried out by opponents of the protesters trying bring down the government of caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
The pre-dawn blast on Saturday at the rally site at the Chaeng Wattana government complex in northern Bangkok wounded one demonstrator and one security guard, according to police.
The explosion raised tensions following last Sunday's snap general election, which was boycotted by the opposition Democrat Party and blocked by anti-government groups in Bangkok and much of southern Thailand.
