MORE floods are threatening to swamp Britain when super Storm Bridget lands.
Heavy rains and 60mph gales will roar in later this week and then sweep eastwards.
The storm will batter Ireland on February 1, the date St Brigid, one of the country’s patron saints, died in 523 AD.
But it could have been called after movie heroine Bridget Jones, because Brits will have to wrap up in massive drawers like hers to keep warm.
Met Office expert Laura Young warned: “We can expect strong winds and a lot of rain. It’s the rain we really want people to be aware of.”
A severe warning for rain has been issued.
The latest weather alerts come as it emerged insurers will have
to pay out £42million for the storm destruction over Christmas and the
New Year.
There have been 174,000 claims for homes, businesses and cars which were damaged, said the Association of British Insurers. And there is no sign of any lengthy dry spells in February, The Weather Channel said.
Odds have been slashed on snow before weekend. Coral has seen an avalanche of bets, making it 1-3 in Newcastle, 8-11 Liverpool and 4-1 London.
