Worst traffic jam ever! Stranded drivers forced to sleep in aisles of shops to keep warm

FED-UP drivers were left sitting in painstaking conditions for more than 20 hours with a roadblock being called the "worst traffic in history".

Devastating weather has caused a more than 15-mile tail back through the city of Atlanta, Georgia leaving motorists stranded in wintry weather.

The eastern state was hit with heavy snow on Tuesday leaving metro Atlanta, the city's main route, covered in up to to 3 inches of snow.

Rush hour traffic were left in a stand-still on Tuesday afternoon with vehicles unable to use slipways to get off the main highway.

 The conditions did not better and drivers became more and more frustrated with family members worries about their loved ones.
Facebook group SnowedoutAtlanta kept people up to date on the latest news with messages revealing the horrifying reality.

One person posted: “Unfortunately, many are stranded where there is NO exit, NO help — my husband being one — please keep all those folks in your prayers."

Many were forced to abandon their cars and walk lengthy spells through the freezing weather to their homes.

One man is reported to have walked six miles to see his daughter for the next day.
Other passengers resorted to waiting it out but the cold got the best of some.

Supermarkets along the highway were packed out overnight with theses stranded able to sleep in the aisles.
Food outlets were also used to stop passengers freezing to death.

Reports even say a baby had to be born on the side of the road as the terrifying wait continued.
The jam is now into its 25th hour with conditions suddenly dying down.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal today urged drivers in a press conference to stay off roads for a clean up on Thursday.

Gov. Deal said: "There's not anybody in this room who could have predicted to the degree and magnitude the problem that developed.

"People should not try to get their abandoned cars today. There is too much ice still. Tomorrow is a better day to get cars."
