Manchester United are planning an audacious deadline day swoop for Tottenham winger Andros Townsend, according to the Sun.

Townsend has leapt prominence this season after bursting onto the international scene with England and United boss David Moyes is known to be a fan.

The Scot tried to get the Spurs man on loan last season when he was still Everton boss and could be about to make a senstional return for the 22-year-old, who has not played since before Christmas because of injury.

The Sun quote a source saying: ‘Andros was one of Everton’s summer targets before Moyes left.

And the impact Andros has had in the first half of this season — establishing himself at Spurs and making an instant impact for England — has not gone unnoticed.

‘There is a view that he is seen as a longer-term replacement for the likes of Antonio Valencia and Nani on United’s flanks.’

With Spurs reportedly in the chase to land United winger Nani, when he looked set for a loan move to Inter Milan, it could be a busy day of negotiations between the clubs.
