A CHURCHGOING mum has become the first woman in Britain to die from cannabis poisoning.
Pal Zara Hill told her inquest the pair smoked £20-worth of the drug a
week before she died. The devout Christian had been taking it to help
her sleep when she became depressed and anxious after splitting from a
boyfriend.
On October 28 Gemma, 31, of Bournemouth, who had two sons and a daughter, went to bed after rolling a joint. She was found in the morning by her 15-year-old son’s girlfriend. Half a joint was discovered lying under her body.
Coroner Sheriff Payne recorded a verdict of death by cannabis abuse, concluding: “It is more likely than not she died from the effects of cannabis.”
David Raynes, of the National Drug Prevention Alliance, said: “This case serves as a warning that cannabis can cause immense harm.”
