LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Lucas Leiva is due to be
assessed after he sustained a knock to his knee during the 2-2 draw
against Aston Villa on Saturday.
"He clashed knees with an opponent, so we'll just see how he is," Rodgers said after the final whistle.
"He just felt a little click in his knee.
"Hopefully it's not too serious. We'll not know for the next 24 to 48 hours."
The 27-year-old has faced difficult spells with
injuries in recent years, having missed over half the 2011-12 season
after suffering a cruciate injury in his left knee during a game against
Chelsea.
Leiva lasted just 20 minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute and reportedly left Anfield on crutches after the game.
Liverpool have won nine of their 11 Premier League games at Anfield this season with just one defeat and one draw.
But
their failure to triumph in this one has cost them ground in their bid
to become realistic title challengers this time around.
And
after Lucas was caught up in a collision and forced to withdraw in the
66th minute, Rodgers said he was the injury wasn't serious.
"He clashed knees with an opponent, so we'll just see how he is," Rodgers said after the final whistle.
"He just felt a little click in his knee.
"Hopefully it's not too serious. We'll not know for the next 24 to 48 hours."
