A US university is on lockdown after staff revealed a student had been shot.

South Carolina State University sent out out an alert revealing a student was hurt on Friday afternoon.
Police are currently searching for four suspects who managed to escape from the campus.
University spokeswoman Sonya Bennett initially said the university campus was not on lockdown but police chose to secure the site about one hour after the shooting.
University Police Chief Mernard Clarkson says the school was locked down to keep the suspects from returning and that students are safe.
