John Henry will meet with Brendan Rodgers this week
Brendan Rodgers is set to hold talks with Liverpool’s owners on Friday as John W Henry is expected to fly in before attending Saturday’s home game against Aston Villa.
Rodgers is believed to want a left-back, midfielder and a striker to bolster his squad.
Liverpool made significant additions last January with the signings of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge, and the manager is looking to add a couple of players who could make a similar impact.
Achieving top four is vital and Liverpool’s owners must put up the money to get the players that Rodgers wants.
Liverpool have their best chance in years to qualify for the Champions League and a couple of new signings could give the Reds that bit extra to achieve their goal.
Failure to make top four could see Liverpool struggle for years to come as I’m not convinced that Luis Suarez will stay unless they qualify for Europe’s premier cup competition.
I don’t expect Liverpool to be spending cash in the same way that Manchester City and Chelsea do, but they have to pay the right funds if they want a player badly instead of hoping they get him on the cheap.
Sometimes in the past it has looked like Liverpool have been trying buy players on the cheap, rather than paying the right price, and we have ended up losing the transfer target and this has to stop if they are to improve the team.
If Liverpool don’t add to the squad this January then I think the owners will be making a big mistake and it will be more difficult for Rodgers in the long run with such a small squad.
This month will be full of transfer speculation but hopefully through all the rumours there is quality additions to take Liverpool to another level.
