A WOMAN has been charged with animal cruelty and reckless conduct after
leaving a baby alligator alone in one of the world's busiest airports
while "high" on crack and heroin.
Alexis Prokopchuk, 29, was arrested in Chicago after leaving a
25-inch baby gator known as "Allie" in the city's O'Hare International
Airport last Novemeber.
The reptile was spotted underneath an escalator in the lower level of Terminal 3 on November 1 and was suffering from soft bones and improper diet according to authorities at the time.
Prokopchuk told officers she and her ex-boyfriend took the gator from a friend who intended to flush it down the toilet.
According to a police report at the time Prokopchuk was "high on crack cocaine and heroin and had taken somer pills" and consequently lost the alligator while coming through the airport.
The accused is expected back in court on January 30.
